Myanmar is a gem of a country. Some of these gems appear in the wide open spaces, and others remain hidden by jungles, lost history, and untold tales. My ‘someday’ return will take me to those places farther from Yangon’s center. From art centers to Yangon's Secretariat Building to Bago's golden palaces and stupas, I was able to discover several gems close to home, and to return with a group of 50 students in tow. Here is your chance to witness Yangon's Golden Gems.
A time of celebrations for all ages, Chinese New Year is alive and well in Yangon’s Chinatown with Dragon Dances leading to Lion Dances. Surrounded by glutinous rice snacks and wishes of prosperity, an abundance of photos and videos capture this annual tradition at its best! A new favorite holiday!

Here's a rare look at this majestic animal as well as elephants, buffalos, wild boar and more found inside Yala National Park in eastern Sri Lanka.
After ringing in the New Year a mile high, I began 2017 with an overly excited welcoming committee, a bus, train and moped ride to Sri Lanka's adored UNESCO city, and found the studly Stilt Fishermen (pretending to be) hard at work. Take a look - all in Black and White!
